SAA at the Watford Conference 2022 in Singapore
11 November 2022
How can transport methods and modes be designed to cope with the demands of an increasingly uncertain future, remain adept at responding to constantly changing needs from the communities they serve, in order to stay relevant for the next generation?
Attendees explored this question at the Watford Conference, organised annually to encourage the exchange of ideas between professionals in industries associated with rail transit. Our Director Rustam Tan and Principals William Chee and Beni Ngotiaoco spoke at this year's edition of the conference, hosted by LTA here in Singapore from 30 October to 2 November.
As one of the pioneers and having delivered over 90 stations in Singapore’s MRT network since the implementation of the first lines in the early 1980s, SAA is well poised to share our experience in designing and executing rail transit stations.
Beni shared the history of intermodal transport transfers in the Singaporean context, and how designing interchanges has evolved from merely just facilitating connections between transport modes, to connecting communities located around transit stations, in his presentation titled "Empowering Transfers to Connect Communities".
Rustam and William elaborated on transfers in their presentations of 2 of SAA's stations- "Bukit Panjang Station: Seamless Connectivity Throughout" and "Dhoby Ghaut Interchange: Integrated Community Flows". This was followed by an in-person guided tour of Bukit Panjang and Dhoby Ghaut Interchange stations.
