Proposal
With government plans to attract foreign talent and improve Luohu’s urban quality, this design proposal centres around a mixed-use development catering to the lifestyle and wellness needs of young talents and multi-generational families who are resettling in this district.
The design proposal reconnects new communities and modern ways of living with the historic Buji River, returning this natural and cultural landmark to the people of Shenzhen. Planned around the site's existing natural features —vistas of the river, a green corridor and courtyards, and a view of Hong Kong from afar — residential stacks are strategically designed with curated amenities to foster community building amidst the scenic offerings. Blocks that house multi-generational families overlook a low-lying school, cultivating a culture of neighbourliness and care for the younger communities.
Following stringent solar requirements, buildings and structures are meticulously designed so residents can live in comfort through all seasons of China, experiencing the sun abundantly and comfortably even in harsh winters. A retail street along the waterfront makes for a lively commercial area easily accessed via seamless circulatory networks throughout the site; allowing a continuous experience between home and lifestyle spaces.
Featuring new-age and sustainable technologies, Shenzhen's oldest city is now a rejuvenated, thriving place for smart communal living, work, and play.
