In Latin, the word ‘Domus’ means home, and the design concept focuses on the basic qualities of a home – comfort, privacy and beauty in simplicity. Domus sets out to be a development of “boutique design” apartments.
In the apartment units, comfort is derived from the protection from sun and good natural cross-ventilation. The building is designed to be perfectly north-south facing, with planter-beds on the east/west facades for sun-shading. The use of scissor stairs for fire escape has minimized the footprint of the stairs, that together with the units’ 2.9m clear height, maximizes the building’s frontage for natural ventilation and views out.
The design concept focuses on the basic qualities of a home - comfort, privacy and beauty in simplicity. For each unit’s privacy, the units are designed such that no unit looks into a neighbour’s unit, making them seem like bungalows in the sky.
The tall and slim tower is provided with sun-shading screens against the planter boxes, creating three-dimensional depth on the façade, and adding a human scale detail to a large tower through this simple feature. The pattern from the screen is repeated in the ventilation openings on the staircore, and form a 3-dimensional sculptural barrier around the landscape terrace, relating the tall tower to the scale of the pedestrian at street level. The stair core is also painted in a pixilated pattern.
The landscape terrace contains an inter-connected loop that strings the facilities, such as the sunbathing decks, Jacuzzi, Secret Garden, outdoor gym and suspended clubhouse together, where residents can enjoy their semi-private activity with opportunities to meet and interact with their neighbours.
