Woodlands Health officially opened by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong
13 July 2024
Singapore's newest hospital, Woodlands Health, was officially opened by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 13 July 2024.
The opening comes after the healthcare development was shortlisted for the 2024 World Architecture Festival (WAF) award in the Completed Buildings: Health category in the same month.
The 7.66 ha campus will be a major healthcare centre for Singapore's northern region. In his speech, SM Lee said: "Woodlands Health has been designed to address the community’s diverse healthcare needs, both now and into the future."
By engaging stakeholders and reviewing the healthcare industry’s user behaviours and current processes, SAA designed the Campus as a single, seamless campus facility comprising six blocks — housing an integrated Acute and Community Hospital, a Medical Centre, and a Long-Term Care Tower.
Woodlands Health is also the first hospital in Singapore to integrate nature through a dedicated park within its grounds, to promote patient healing and improve staff’s wellbeing.
Michael Leong, Senior Executive Director, SAA Architects, said: "We envisioned Woodlands Health Campus as a holistic space for healing and recovery. For example, the integration of the public park into the hospital invites the community as partners and at the same time encourages active living for the public. We hope WHC sets a new benchmark for the delivery of healthcare in Singapore.”
