Stage 4 of Thomson-East Coast Line opens for passenger service
23 June 2024
Stage 4 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL4) commenced operations on 23 June 2024, marking the addition of seven new Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations to Singapore’s sixth MRT line.
SAA is the architectural consultant for three of the seven stations in this stage: Marine Terrace, Siglap, and Bayshore — taking on the station planning and full architectural scope from project inception through to delivery.
Once fully completed, the line will span 43 kilometres and enhance connectivity between the north, central, and eastern parts of Singapore. The TEL is expected to initially serve some 500,000 commuters daily, with the figure growing to one million commuters in the longer term, according to the Land Transport Authority.
The line was opened for a one-day public preview on 21 June 2024. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who was the guest of honour at the opening ceremony, said: “I hope (the TEL4) opening will give all of us confidence and hope for the future, that working together, we can build a more liveable and sustainable Singapore, and make this a place we are all proud to call home.”
SAA's Executive Director of Transport and project lead, Rustam Tan, shared: “These stations embody the essence of functional and beautiful public spaces that support Singapore's growth. Our team at SAA is proud to have contributed to the design, planning, and delivery of TEL4.”
