Changi T4 achieves highest distinction for Universal Design
Changi Airport Terminal 4 (T4) has been awarded the Universal Design Mark Platinum Award for its design approach in providing a barrier-free environment, the highest accolade under the BCA Universal Design Mark scheme.
The passenger-centric and holistic design approach to the two-storey, 25-metre-high building sought to redefine the traveller experience with a profound focus on immersing each visitor in a stress-free, all-inclusive environment. The terminal’s barrier-free design allows all visitors unhindered mobility from the kerbless arrival (and departure) drop-off areas all the way through to airside departure. In addition to features such as ergonomically-designed self check-in kiosks and wheelchair-friendly recreational spaces, the terminal also incorporates centralised security and immigration processes and enhanced wayfinding cues to ensure a pleasant and stress-free experience for all.
About the BCA Universal Design (UD) Mark
First introduced in 2007 as the BCA UD Awards, the BCA UD Mark scheme was launched in 2012 as an enhanced initiative to encourage UD adoption in development, and accord recognition to developments and stakeholders that adopt a user-centric philosophy in their design, operations and maintenance. It also aims to raise greater public awareness towards user-friendly buildings.
